"This impressive anthology embodies the spirit of the ampersand—the thinking and doing, the dreaming and making—at the heart of any literary practice. You'll find here fragments of textual beauty, narrative power, and creative daring quite unlike one another in their uniqueness but bound inseparably together through community and experience that will last a lifetime."

Story

Get to Know Us

The 2023 Creative Writing and Publishing class produced, Tessellate: An Anthology. We are the third cohort of this program, and the last four years have been highly enriching in our development as creators. This collection of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, play, and comics was compiled by 33 writers and 15 publishers with a diverse set of life experiences. Our anthology’s aesthetic is a mosaic, representing how we all came together throughout this program and brought our unique perspectives, skills, and talents. Tessellate is a mix of colour, experiences, and individuality that best represents our cohort as a whole.

Our vision for this anthology was to produce a dynamic hybrid collection that exemplifies the superior writing and publishing abilities of the third CW&P cohort. Our print anthology is supplemented by this website, a tool that provides a deeper look at its authors and publishers. We are pleased to have produced a work that incorporates all that we have learned in this program and allows us to put our knowledge into practice. This work is a significant achievement for each student involved, and we are eager to have all of our hard work pay off.

"Tessellate: An Anthology showcases the hard work and imaginations of the 2023 graduating class of Sheridan’s Creative Writing & Publishing program. This cohort arrived as a diverse group with distinct points-of-view. They have learned through practice the value and effects of criticism and feedback to produce strong, creative works. Here, you will read a wild array of samples from short stories about fantastical creatures from other worlds, characters bumping up against drug cartels; coming-of-age poetry or poems nostalgic for specific places and times; and, scripts that will leave you feeling haunted. The students came to us open to the possibilities of creative writing and publishing, and they leave us with this anthology, a representation of how they became strong writers and editors."
